Healthy Food Recipe For a Quick Meal

Posted by Health Wizard Thursday, April 30, 2015 0 comments

green beans

With the heat of the summer and the fact that we have longer days, many times we would like to eat something light as well as later in the evening. Ideally speaking, a quick easy dinner as well as an easy healthy dinner. Here is a healthy food recipe for a quick meal.

Based upon one of my favorite marinades, this healthy food recipe is a quick easy dinner that can be made for 1 or more people (if you are entertaining). What I did earlier this week was prepare halibut over brown and wild rice mixed with dates and served green beans on the side. This easy healthy dinner took no time at all to make.

The ingredients to use for this quick meal are:

1 portion of halibut

Brown rice

Wild Rice

Dates

Green Beans

To start this quick easy dinner, marinate the halibut in a bowl of equal parts olive oil, balsamic vinegar (2 tablespoons each) and a clove or two of garlic. Coat the halibut and place the fish in the refrigerator for about two hours.

In the meantime, follow the cooking instructions on the back of the packages for the wild rice and the brown rice and cook both types of rice separately. When I made this healthy food recipe, I used 1/4 cup of wild rice and 1 cup of brown rice.

Once both sets of rice are cooked, mix them together and add chopped dates. Be sure you check the dates for nuts. Allow the heat of both sets of rice to warm up the chopped dates. Set the rice aside.

Once the halibut is marinated, cook the fish in the oven until tender and flaky but not raw in the middle. To make this a really quick dinner, purchase freshly frozen green beans and heat them up over the stove while you are cooking the halibut.

Health And Wellness Following The Baby Boomers

Posted by Health Wizard Tuesday, April 21, 2015 0 comments

your body

If you are a "Baby Boomer", you have noticed that your health may be a bit different than in your younger years. I am not a "B-Boomer", but I am right behind you! I am in my 30's and notice things don't sit the way they did when I was in my 20's! Ah, The good ol' days! When gravity didn't affect me as much, and I could eat pizza without seeing it appear quickly on my legs and belly, as well as behind me. But such is this time of our life. So, what are we to do? What are the things that affect us the most. We are all different, some more fit than others, some more stressed , and some, unfortunately, with greater physical needs. Some of us, if not most, are affected by aches and pains of one kind or another.

Joint pain, allergies, weight challenges, or just feeling stressed and run down from poor diet. I take that back, not "just stressed". That is the main cause of illness today. Stress can change your health on a cellular level. Check the medical journals, and make your own assessments. The fact remains, stress is a major problem today with all age groups, but we have the "baby boomers " to thank for being a massive part of those studies. The one's affected most by stress, pollution, poor diet, and the "at the time" undiscovered risks involved. Food additives, smoking, and other things we only learned can be damaging AFTER it began affecting them. But now is the time to counteract the things that damage us.

Should one bother to start taking care of themselves now? Absolutely! How? There are many ways. If you are bothered by your weight, you should definitely start some physical activity, but only after your doctor gives you the green light ! Some people may have underlying physical limitations they may not be aware of ! When I worked in a popular vitamin and supplement shop, a woman entered and asked for weight loss pills, a.k.a. "fat burners". I asked her if she had any heart problems in her family history, and she replied, "Yes, I got the problem from these pills, here..." as she pointed to a top selling "thermogenic" or "fat burning" pill. She had taken them without regard that she had a history of heart problems, and was STILL wanting to take a fat burning pill!! Walking and 10 glasses of water a day is still the best way to start raising your metabolism. Please, before you run down to your local health, or vitamin shop, check with your doctor, ask what he thinks about the supplements you wish to use, and check with the company that produces them. If you have a family history of serious, or potentially serious medical problems, you need to cover your bases, and be informed. Ask any relatives if your grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc., have any hereditary medical problems. Some physical traits, and underlying problems can go back several generations, so use great caution.

Headache Cures and Remedies

blood circulation

Headache is a common problem experienced by most people due to lack of sleep and stress. There are four main types of headaches, and they are tension, cluster, migraine, and migraine with aura. There are large numbers of headache cures that give immediate relief. Headaches caused by indoor air pollution can be reduced and eliminated by using indoor house plants. Taking hot shower also gives some relief and allowing warm water to run on neck and lower back improves blood flow and offers muscle relaxation. Heating pad and hot showers are the excellent remedies for tension headaches.

Exercise improves blood circulation and regulates the blood flow to the brain and heart. Deep breathing exercises are very helpful in eliminating headaches. Anything that increases the blood circulation greatly benefits in reducing the headache problem. Other simple techniques are following relaxation technique and using ice pack on neck and head. Dehydration is the main cause of headaches and this can be immediately relieved by drinking plenty of water. Water cleanses all the organs and makes them function normally.

Inhaling vapor of apple cider vinegar for five minutes is an effective headache cure. Following natural remedies is the sure answer for how to cure a headache because this does not have any side-effects and the effects are long lasting. Drinking water mixed with cayenne pepper dilates the blood vessels and thus improves the blood circulation. Massaging the forehead and neck is one of the best remedy. Mixing eucalyptus oil or lavender oil with carrier oil and massaging on the forehead gives better relief and this is very beneficial for tension headaches.

Healthy Food Low Budget? Try Pulses

Posted by Health Wizard Monday, April 6, 2015 0 comments

dried beans

So you want to eat healthy food on a low budget? Well who wouldn't? - But in these hard times that's not so easy is it? If money is tight and time to prepare nutritious family meals is limited, it's all too easy to get drawn into buying unhealthy high fat pre-packaged foods. These often look like the cheapest option - but is that really the case, and what is their true cost in terms of our overall health and well-being?

Pulses are an excellent way to improve the quality of our diet, and the great thing is they also allow us to save money into the bargain. Pulses are the family of foods that include dried beans, dried peas and lentils. They are high in fiber, high in protein, low in calories and can help to lower cholesterol, so all in all they are simply a great health food which is also satisfying and cheap.

But surely dried beans take an age to prepare with all that soaking and boiling? - That's certainly true, but these days all good supermarkets stock a wide range of tinned pulses which are equally nutritious, still very cheap and also very quick to prepare. For example, my own Easy Bean Stew Recipe from preparation to on the table takes me no more than half an hour (see link below).

dried beans

It would be quite wrong however to discount dried beans and pulses just because of the preparation time, after all they are so cheap that I always keep a stock of various types in my store cupboard for when I've had the time to plan meals ahead. Planning is the key point here, if I know I'm going to make a bean dish tomorrow, I just put the beans in a bowl of water before I go to bed. As soon as I get in from work the next day, I change the water put them on the cooker to boil and they're ready to incorporate into my meal by the time I'm ready to start the main preparation. Really easy, but just needs a little forethought.

Healthy Food Plans - The Right Food for Weight Loss

Posted by Health Wizard Tuesday, March 31, 2015 0 comments

group includes

Deciding upon several possible healthy food plans is the most important factors in any weight loss program. Let me make one thing very clear though; when you eat MORE foods during the day than your body is actually physically able to burn off you WILL gain weight...

This is the "Scientific Formula" to weight loss. Plain and True.

To stop yourself from gaining weight and actually begin losing weight you must plan a healthier way of eating:

#1) The first step is to start a food journal, all good healthy food plans have you keep a list of all the food you eat throughout the day. You should begin that journal today even before starting your diet. This will give you insight into your eating patterns and help you calculate the amount of food you are consuming.

#2) You need to learn to read the packaging of goods you buy and become familiar with how much a serving size is. Portion Control. You should plan on eating smaller meals more often throughout the day. The recommended amount is 3 to 5 smaller meals during the day. This will help curb your hunger throughout the day by giving you the feeling of being full all day. Also, you should eat your meals slowly as this will help in better digestion.

#3) Water is essential and you must drink about sixty-four ounces of water every day.

#4) Most healthy food plans include food from all of the food groups. This allows you to have a complete diet and receive all the vitamins and nutrients your body needs. To develop healthy food plans you must first learn how many servings of each of the food groups you should have.

Heal Your Headache

Posted by Health Wizard Tuesday, March 24, 2015 0 comments

stress management

Headaches are no fun, there's no doubt about it. They prevent you from doing your basic, everyday tasks. Fortunately, there are many ways (most of them natural!) to prevent and heal your headache. However, not all headaches are created equal. You should first determine what type of headache you have. Here are some common headaches, along with prevention/healing tips:

Tension headache - starts as a constant, dull ache in the back of your head. The pain then radiates across the forehead to the temples. Neck or shoulder pain is also possible. The pain can be downright unbearable! This headache is brought on by stress, hence it's name. The key to prevention is stress management. Always take time for yourself each day, doing something relaxing, that you enjoy. You should really do this anyway, as it clears your mind and gives you a general sense of well-being. Try to breathe deeply when you find yourself in a tense situation.

Aside from the obvious (meaning Aspirin, Tylenol, etc) methods, when a tension headache strikes, try rubbing lavender oil on your temples. It's a great, natural stress reliever, and it can go a long way in healing your headache! Chamomile tea is an excellent choice for this type of headache, as chamomile is a natural sedative, making it an essential herb for dealing with stress.

Migraine headache - Ah, the migraine. The most dreaded headache of all. You'll know it's a migraine if you have an awful, throbbing pain, accompanied by a sensitivity to light, and sometimes, nausea or vomiting. Fun stuff, huh?Like tension headaches, stress can bring these bad boys on. So can pregnancy, PMS, birth control pills, certain medications. Women are said to be more prone to them than men. To avoid them, stay away from foods such as chocolate, cheese, nuts, and citrus fruits. If stress is a big factor, try the stress management tips above.

Healthy Food Makes Healthy Bodies

Posted by Health Wizard Tuesday, March 17, 2015 0 comments

food guide

Nowadays people start to conceive that they are continually growing and developing. Our body is in constant need of healthy food to promote proper cell growth and keep it "fueled". The ideal balance includes exercise along with a healthy diet which provides with all of the daily requirements. A healthy food guide can show precisely what is needed and what amounts are required to maintain a vital healthy body and mind.

What constitutes "healthy food"? Based on the food pyramid, there is a formula for balanced meals and this involves making use of the basic food groups which include:

• Grains (the staff of life) found in cereal, rice, pasta, and bread consisting of six to eleven helpings of some form of these items each day.

• Vegetables should be consumed in three to five helpings daily and that category includes peas, green beans, corn, carrot, lettuce, etc.

• Fruits such as peach, pears, apples, and oranges are recommended two to four servings per day.

• Dairy products should be provided two or three times daily in the form of cheese, milk, and yogurt to provide with calcium and to promote growth (particularly for children).

healthy food

• Protein is vital to the body but should not be overused at the sacrifice of other healthy food items. Meat, fish, poultry, dry beans, nuts, and eggs make up this group and are vital to growth and energy.

• Fats are very helpful for a body, but it concerns only naturally occurring fats.

To insure that the daily nutritional requirements of children are met, children should have cereal with milk and fruits for breakfast; vegetables, meat such as fish, and bread or pasta for a balanced lunch. Their day should be finished with a nutritious dinner consisting of plenty of fruits and vegetables. According to the healthy food guide, we need to eat a well balanced diet which means following the guidelines provided in food pyramid information. This guide is updated every five years and it is good because the suggested requirements change from time to time, based on research.
