Healthy Food Recipe For a Quick Meal

Posted by Health Wizard Thursday, April 30, 2015 0 comments

green beans

With the heat of the summer and the fact that we have longer days, many times we would like to eat something light as well as later in the evening. Ideally speaking, a quick easy dinner as well as an easy healthy dinner. Here is a healthy food recipe for a quick meal.

Based upon one of my favorite marinades, this healthy food recipe is a quick easy dinner that can be made for 1 or more people (if you are entertaining). What I did earlier this week was prepare halibut over brown and wild rice mixed with dates and served green beans on the side. This easy healthy dinner took no time at all to make.

The ingredients to use for this quick meal are:

1 portion of halibut

Brown rice

Wild Rice

Dates

Green Beans

To start this quick easy dinner, marinate the halibut in a bowl of equal parts olive oil, balsamic vinegar (2 tablespoons each) and a clove or two of garlic. Coat the halibut and place the fish in the refrigerator for about two hours.

green beans

In the meantime, follow the cooking instructions on the back of the packages for the wild rice and the brown rice and cook both types of rice separately. When I made this healthy food recipe, I used 1/4 cup of wild rice and 1 cup of brown rice.

Once both sets of rice are cooked, mix them together and add chopped dates. Be sure you check the dates for nuts. Allow the heat of both sets of rice to warm up the chopped dates. Set the rice aside.

Once the halibut is marinated, cook the fish in the oven until tender and flaky but not raw in the middle. To make this a really quick dinner, purchase freshly frozen green beans and heat them up over the stove while you are cooking the halibut.

Health And Wellness Following The Baby Boomers

Posted by Health Wizard Tuesday, April 21, 2015 0 comments

your body

If you are a "Baby Boomer", you have noticed that your health may be a bit different than in your younger years. I am not a "B-Boomer", but I am right behind you! I am in my 30's and notice things don't sit the way they did when I was in my 20's! Ah, The good ol' days! When gravity didn't affect me as much, and I could eat pizza without seeing it appear quickly on my legs and belly, as well as behind me. But such is this time of our life. So, what are we to do? What are the things that affect us the most. We are all different, some more fit than others, some more stressed , and some, unfortunately, with greater physical needs. Some of us, if not most, are affected by aches and pains of one kind or another.

Joint pain, allergies, weight challenges, or just feeling stressed and run down from poor diet. I take that back, not "just stressed". That is the main cause of illness today. Stress can change your health on a cellular level. Check the medical journals, and make your own assessments. The fact remains, stress is a major problem today with all age groups, but we have the "baby boomers " to thank for being a massive part of those studies. The one's affected most by stress, pollution, poor diet, and the "at the time" undiscovered risks involved. Food additives, smoking, and other things we only learned can be damaging AFTER it began affecting them. But now is the time to counteract the things that damage us.

Should one bother to start taking care of themselves now? Absolutely! How? There are many ways. If you are bothered by your weight, you should definitely start some physical activity, but only after your doctor gives you the green light ! Some people may have underlying physical limitations they may not be aware of ! When I worked in a popular vitamin and supplement shop, a woman entered and asked for weight loss pills, a.k.a. "fat burners". I asked her if she had any heart problems in her family history, and she replied, "Yes, I got the problem from these pills, here..." as she pointed to a top selling "thermogenic" or "fat burning" pill. She had taken them without regard that she had a history of heart problems, and was STILL wanting to take a fat burning pill!! Walking and 10 glasses of water a day is still the best way to start raising your metabolism. Please, before you run down to your local health, or vitamin shop, check with your doctor, ask what he thinks about the supplements you wish to use, and check with the company that produces them. If you have a family history of serious, or potentially serious medical problems, you need to cover your bases, and be informed. Ask any relatives if your grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc., have any hereditary medical problems. Some physical traits, and underlying problems can go back several generations, so use great caution.

Headache Cures and Remedies

blood circulation

Headache is a common problem experienced by most people due to lack of sleep and stress. There are four main types of headaches, and they are tension, cluster, migraine, and migraine with aura. There are large numbers of headache cures that give immediate relief. Headaches caused by indoor air pollution can be reduced and eliminated by using indoor house plants. Taking hot shower also gives some relief and allowing warm water to run on neck and lower back improves blood flow and offers muscle relaxation. Heating pad and hot showers are the excellent remedies for tension headaches.

Exercise improves blood circulation and regulates the blood flow to the brain and heart. Deep breathing exercises are very helpful in eliminating headaches. Anything that increases the blood circulation greatly benefits in reducing the headache problem. Other simple techniques are following relaxation technique and using ice pack on neck and head. Dehydration is the main cause of headaches and this can be immediately relieved by drinking plenty of water. Water cleanses all the organs and makes them function normally.

Inhaling vapor of apple cider vinegar for five minutes is an effective headache cure. Following natural remedies is the sure answer for how to cure a headache because this does not have any side-effects and the effects are long lasting. Drinking water mixed with cayenne pepper dilates the blood vessels and thus improves the blood circulation. Massaging the forehead and neck is one of the best remedy. Mixing eucalyptus oil or lavender oil with carrier oil and massaging on the forehead gives better relief and this is very beneficial for tension headaches.

Healthy Food Low Budget? Try Pulses

Posted by Health Wizard Monday, April 6, 2015 0 comments

dried beans

So you want to eat healthy food on a low budget? Well who wouldn't? - But in these hard times that's not so easy is it? If money is tight and time to prepare nutritious family meals is limited, it's all too easy to get drawn into buying unhealthy high fat pre-packaged foods. These often look like the cheapest option - but is that really the case, and what is their true cost in terms of our overall health and well-being?

Pulses are an excellent way to improve the quality of our diet, and the great thing is they also allow us to save money into the bargain. Pulses are the family of foods that include dried beans, dried peas and lentils. They are high in fiber, high in protein, low in calories and can help to lower cholesterol, so all in all they are simply a great health food which is also satisfying and cheap.

But surely dried beans take an age to prepare with all that soaking and boiling? - That's certainly true, but these days all good supermarkets stock a wide range of tinned pulses which are equally nutritious, still very cheap and also very quick to prepare. For example, my own Easy Bean Stew Recipe from preparation to on the table takes me no more than half an hour (see link below).

dried beans

It would be quite wrong however to discount dried beans and pulses just because of the preparation time, after all they are so cheap that I always keep a stock of various types in my store cupboard for when I've had the time to plan meals ahead. Planning is the key point here, if I know I'm going to make a bean dish tomorrow, I just put the beans in a bowl of water before I go to bed. As soon as I get in from work the next day, I change the water put them on the cooker to boil and they're ready to incorporate into my meal by the time I'm ready to start the main preparation. Really easy, but just needs a little forethought.

Healthy Food Plans - The Right Food for Weight Loss

Posted by Health Wizard Tuesday, March 31, 2015 0 comments

group includes

Deciding upon several possible healthy food plans is the most important factors in any weight loss program. Let me make one thing very clear though; when you eat MORE foods during the day than your body is actually physically able to burn off you WILL gain weight...

This is the "Scientific Formula" to weight loss. Plain and True.

To stop yourself from gaining weight and actually begin losing weight you must plan a healthier way of eating:

#1) The first step is to start a food journal, all good healthy food plans have you keep a list of all the food you eat throughout the day. You should begin that journal today even before starting your diet. This will give you insight into your eating patterns and help you calculate the amount of food you are consuming.

#2) You need to learn to read the packaging of goods you buy and become familiar with how much a serving size is. Portion Control. You should plan on eating smaller meals more often throughout the day. The recommended amount is 3 to 5 smaller meals during the day. This will help curb your hunger throughout the day by giving you the feeling of being full all day. Also, you should eat your meals slowly as this will help in better digestion.

#3) Water is essential and you must drink about sixty-four ounces of water every day.

#4) Most healthy food plans include food from all of the food groups. This allows you to have a complete diet and receive all the vitamins and nutrients your body needs. To develop healthy food plans you must first learn how many servings of each of the food groups you should have.

Heal Your Headache

Posted by Health Wizard Tuesday, March 24, 2015 0 comments

stress management

Headaches are no fun, there's no doubt about it. They prevent you from doing your basic, everyday tasks. Fortunately, there are many ways (most of them natural!) to prevent and heal your headache. However, not all headaches are created equal. You should first determine what type of headache you have. Here are some common headaches, along with prevention/healing tips:

Tension headache - starts as a constant, dull ache in the back of your head. The pain then radiates across the forehead to the temples. Neck or shoulder pain is also possible. The pain can be downright unbearable! This headache is brought on by stress, hence it's name. The key to prevention is stress management. Always take time for yourself each day, doing something relaxing, that you enjoy. You should really do this anyway, as it clears your mind and gives you a general sense of well-being. Try to breathe deeply when you find yourself in a tense situation.

Aside from the obvious (meaning Aspirin, Tylenol, etc) methods, when a tension headache strikes, try rubbing lavender oil on your temples. It's a great, natural stress reliever, and it can go a long way in healing your headache! Chamomile tea is an excellent choice for this type of headache, as chamomile is a natural sedative, making it an essential herb for dealing with stress.

stress management

Migraine headache - Ah, the migraine. The most dreaded headache of all. You'll know it's a migraine if you have an awful, throbbing pain, accompanied by a sensitivity to light, and sometimes, nausea or vomiting. Fun stuff, huh?Like tension headaches, stress can bring these bad boys on. So can pregnancy, PMS, birth control pills, certain medications. Women are said to be more prone to them than men. To avoid them, stay away from foods such as chocolate, cheese, nuts, and citrus fruits. If stress is a big factor, try the stress management tips above.

Healthy Food Makes Healthy Bodies

Posted by Health Wizard Tuesday, March 17, 2015 0 comments

food guide

Nowadays people start to conceive that they are continually growing and developing. Our body is in constant need of healthy food to promote proper cell growth and keep it "fueled". The ideal balance includes exercise along with a healthy diet which provides with all of the daily requirements. A healthy food guide can show precisely what is needed and what amounts are required to maintain a vital healthy body and mind.

What constitutes "healthy food"? Based on the food pyramid, there is a formula for balanced meals and this involves making use of the basic food groups which include:

• Grains (the staff of life) found in cereal, rice, pasta, and bread consisting of six to eleven helpings of some form of these items each day.

• Vegetables should be consumed in three to five helpings daily and that category includes peas, green beans, corn, carrot, lettuce, etc.

• Fruits such as peach, pears, apples, and oranges are recommended two to four servings per day.

• Dairy products should be provided two or three times daily in the form of cheese, milk, and yogurt to provide with calcium and to promote growth (particularly for children).

healthy food

• Protein is vital to the body but should not be overused at the sacrifice of other healthy food items. Meat, fish, poultry, dry beans, nuts, and eggs make up this group and are vital to growth and energy.

• Fats are very helpful for a body, but it concerns only naturally occurring fats.

To insure that the daily nutritional requirements of children are met, children should have cereal with milk and fruits for breakfast; vegetables, meat such as fish, and bread or pasta for a balanced lunch. Their day should be finished with a nutritious dinner consisting of plenty of fruits and vegetables. According to the healthy food guide, we need to eat a well balanced diet which means following the guidelines provided in food pyramid information. This guide is updated every five years and it is good because the suggested requirements change from time to time, based on research.

Healthy Food Produces Healthy Children

Posted by Health Wizard Monday, March 9, 2015 0 comments

your kids

Eating well is so important, especially when your children are young. Unfortunately, sugar tastes significantly better than fruit, and so is generally so much more appealing to your kids. Therefore, it's your responsibility to be sure that your children don't have access to the sugary sweets and do have access to the leafy greens. While most of the time it is an uphill battle, following are some tricks to make the hill a little less steep.

Although this one is a bit taboo nowadays, it worked on me and my whole childhood: when you don't finish your vegetables you don't get dessert! Some people say that you shouldn't bribe kids with junk food, or force them to eat if they don't desire to, but it undeniably a technique to get them finishing the healthy food on their plate! Dessert should never be thought to be bad, it just needs to be moderated. Allow your kids to have a small piece of chocolate, or some ice cream in a cone. Reward systems will work with regard to getting your kids to consume veggies.

Don't force them to eat every single vegetable under the sun. Example, many individuals don't like Brussels sprouts. If you try your kids on them and they don't like them, then don't force it. If you make them eat one type, they'll are inclined to lump everything similar to it in the "yuck" category, and thus you will have lots of trouble getting them to eat a lot more. Instead, pick and choose their favorites, or at least the ones that they eat without too much fuss and put them in the meal instead.

Health Care - What If We Play the Games Differently?

Posted by Health Wizard Thursday, February 19, 2015 0 comments

auto insurance

Twenty-plus years ago I worked for an attorney who said that whatever didn't require his law degree to do, could-and should-be done by someone else. He trained his staff as paralegals. I started my professional career learning to think strategically and ask different kinds of questions--about a lot of things. Today that includes health care, health insurance, and the increasing costs to both employers and consumers.

I'm a business and human resource professional, a consumer, educator, and wellness coach. I know that people behave and act based on motivators and rewards. In general, wherever the incentives are placed, and or monitoring is done, action will take place and the monitored results will be achieved. Parents know this; teachers know this. It's a basic principle of education.

The answers will not come out of one essay. The subject is complex and as individualized as its participants. And it's unrealistic to think one solution will fit all contingencies. My objective here is simply to tap the interests, experience, and expertise of the players, and get all of us thinking outside the "rules" a bit. Like pieces of a giant jigsaw puzzle, we all have important pieces of information and experience to contribute.

In childhood, we learned the value of playing outside the rules once in awhile to achieve the objectives we wanted. I did. Our family version of Monopoly included IOU sheets. Mom invented them so she and all of my siblings could stay in the game and play as long as we wanted (allowing her to keep us occupied and together where she could see us)-her desired objective at the time.

Health and Aging Advice by Oprah - The Longevity RezV Tab Review

Posted by Health Wizard Tuesday, February 17, 2015 0 comments

their local

Some comprehensive health and aging advice recently sprang from the Oprah show, where Dr Oz the resident dietitian reviewed one of the latest methods for treating longevity.

Known as resveratrol, this anti-oxidant which has been consumed for centuries by certain communities in their local diet, has only recently been manufactured into a pill supplement and juice.

Resveratrol works by slowly stripping away fats which line your arteries and by having cleaner arteries your heart obviously works more efficiently under less stress, therefor giving it strength and adding longevity.

Resveratrol is in fact a polyphenol, or a fungi if you like which is found in high concentrations in the Muscadine grape and Japanese Knot weed.

This fungi helps protect the plant from bacteria, but has also proved to be an extremely rich anti-oxidant.

Sardinians have consumed this for centuries in their local tipple of red wine and although alcohol poses obvious risks, if consumed on a regular basis in moderation, this scientists believe is in part due to the fact that this small island holds the world record for the highest number of centenarian men per capita.

Okinawans also consume Resveratrol in abundance and here their Resv fix comes in the form of Knotweed which is a root used in a variety of recipes and also used medicinally.

health aging

In fact the Okinawans have been using resveratrol formulas for centuries for health and aging treatments such as inflammation as well as lipid atherosclerosis and liver ailments such as Hepatitis B and arthritis.

Health and Fitness - What Can You Do About It?

Posted by Health Wizard Tuesday, February 10, 2015 0 comments

this phrase

"Health is not everything, but everything without health is nothing." I read this phrase a couple of years ago but its impact was so powerful that it has remained etched in my memory.

In Singapore, one recent case to illustrate this phrase was a very rich man who tried to buy a kidney to replace his failed kidney. Unfortunately it was against the law and he was caught and jailed. Fortunately it was for a very short jail term. Also fortunately, somebody subsequently "donated" a kidney to him. However, he still has all the usual related health issues like diabetes, high-blood pressure and so on.

Therefore if you neglect to do all that is necessary to maintain your good health you will suffer and regret it later on in life. Very soon you will be afflicted with one form of impairment, disorder or disability after another. The intensity or frequency or seriousness escalates. Soon it spirals out of control.

You simply have to be mindful of all the necessary precautions and actions to be taken and be disciplined enough to follow them. Let's just take three examples.

First take for example the over consumption of salt, or Sodium Chloride. I used to like my food salty, but now I know that it can increase my blood pressure and thus I have drastically reduced my salt intake. The problem is that it is over a period of time before you are pronounced "Hypertensive ", and Hypertension is for Life.

Salt also causes you to retain water, which can cause bloating. It also causes problems of intestinal and gastric nature. Don't you think it would be wiser to control the intake of salt from now on?

Healthy Food Planning

types foods

People are discovering that they can have total control over their diets, and the outcome of their health. They are learning new and inventive ways of overhauling their food habits. They are learning that healthy food planning starts at home when they are planning their shopping list. Healthy food planning continues when they go to the grocery store to shop. People finalize their goals for a healthy eating plan when they prepare the food that they bought, and eat it. With all of these things in mind, here's a look at how healthy food planning comes into play with all of these aspects.

First, if a person wants to eat healthier, they've got to take an honest inventory of the types of foods and products that they have in their homes. If they are eating foods and products full of chemicals and preservatives, these clearly aren't going to be healthy choices for them. Also, if the foods are full of saturated fats, these aren't going to be healthy. The key to healthy food planning is to first of all think of foods that are as close to their natural state as possible. Potatoes are just that. Fruits and vegetables are what they are. Lean meats just need to be seasoned and cooked. These types of foods are always going to be good for you, because they are whole foods. People might dress up these foods with seasonings, spices, or fats, but at their core, they are simple foods.

Second, when a person shops at the grocery store, here's a trick that will help them to shop healthier. They should shop the perimeter of the store. Most grocery stores have entrances that start at the produce department. They then will lead to the meat department, and then on the other end of the store, the shopper will find the dairy department. Shoppers wanting a healthier lifestyle, especially those wanting to start eating low carbs, should learn what is available on the store's perimeters, and stock up on these types of products.

Healthy Eating and Dieting Lies You Should Be Aware Of

Posted by Health Wizard Wednesday, January 28, 2015 0 comments

Proper foods, lots of exercise, and portion control are requirements for a healthy lifestyle. Alas there are a lot of misinformation to trap and beguile the unwary shopper. The biggest factor is your awareness of just what you are eating. Today we will discuss some of these lies.

1: Low Fat is always healthy

False: As a matter of fact Low Fat or No Fat labels can actually be unhealthier than regular products. The reason being that when they take out the fat they usually replace them with sugar to put some flavor back in. Therefore more sugar equals more calories so a low fat/no fat product could actually make you fatter. Look for fats found in nuts, olive oil or fish.

2: All Fruits are the Same

False: Some fruits can actually add weight. Look for fruits low in calories yet high in fiber. Apples, bananas and grapefruit are some of the best fruits for this purpose.

3: All Chocolate is detrimental to your waistline

False: In reality top quality dark chocolate is very high in flavinols and antioxidants. Regular milk and white chocolate contain large amounts of sugar and unhealthy fats therefore leading to extra unwanted calories.

4: True/False: Yes a nice leafy green salad can be great for you. You must avoid all the fattening cream dressings, the bacon bits, high fat cheese, etc that most people add to their "healthy" salad. Keep it plain with a nice balsamic vinaigrette and you will be fine.

By avoiding these dietary pitfalls and lies you will be able to keep your diet on track with health and vigor your goals. These are just a few tips for healthy eating and dieting.

Gouty arthritis, or simply gout, afflicts a great number of people around the world. Because of the excruciating pain it brings, people with gout often choose to prevent any further attacks by undertaking measures to avoid it. Nowadays, gout sufferers are given varied options and means to address their problems with gout. Probably the easiest and most convenient way in achieving this is by observing certain lifestyle changes. One of which is consuming an appropriate diet and knowing which arthritis foods to avoid.

The following are suggestions based on an e-book written by a nurse. The information is reliable and useful. The arthritis foods to avoid include but are not limited to the ones mentioned in the succeeding sections of this article.

1. Bacon. It's one of the most popular breakfast choices for most people. However, bacon should be avoided by people with gout because of it contains high amounts of purine. Also, it's rich in sodium since it's highly processed. This promotes urination which might lead to dehydration that can worsen gout.

2. Hot dogs. Whether hotdogs are from pork, beef or turkey, the fact still remains that they are not advisable for gout sufferers since they are rich in purine. Moreover, most hotdogs are added with organ meat which is known to contain excessive amounts of purine.

3. Poultry. Although chicken meat is a staple food for most people, it contains high levels of purine. Therefore, it should be avoided by people suffering from gout. Other people go as far as avoiding dishes with chicken flavour. However, this has not been proven to induce gout. But it's better safe than sorry.

Healthy Eating and Dieting - Ways to Maintaining a Healthy Weight

Posted by Health Wizard Tuesday, January 6, 2015 0 comments

that help

Healthy eating and dieting is one ideal way of maintaining a healthy weight. Although this might seem to be a little difficult nowadays because of the lure of some 'instant weight loss formula' and some diet pills that claim to have a quick fix on your weight problems. However, nothing can really beat the healthy way of losing weight.

It is important to note however, that healthy eating and dieting is not about getting very skinny, but maintaining that ideal weight which helps you stay away from health problems and be happy with life.

Here are some simple tips and ideas that can help you in your daily quest of healthy eating and dieting.

- A fish in your diet. Yes, indeed, fish should be an important part of your diet. Aside from being low in saturated fat, it is also low in calories. Fishes like Salmon, Tuna and Sardines are also rich in 'good fats' or omega 3, which helps not only in protecting the heart but in improving your metabolism and burning more calories.

- Do not eat more than what your body needs. It is indeed common sense not to stuff your body with more food than what you actually need, but it is also one reason why people are overweight. How do you know then if you are overeating? Your brain will send signals that you are already full and so you should stop eating, and one way to be aware of it is to eat slow. Not really too slow, but slow enough that you can chew your food properly, and you can listen to your body if you are already full.

healthy eating

- Water instead of soda. Instead of taking a can of soda after each meal, keep in mind to take water. Aside from being an important element in making our bodies function well, water is it also calorie-free and fat-free. If you are just starting out with healthy eating and dieting, you can start with cutting down on soda and drinking more water in your every meal.
